Details of latest confirmation:  Emerald ash borer has been detected in the village of Greenfield. The finding is very near the recent detection in neighboring Greendale, and is not unexpected.  Distinctive S-shaped galleries that indicate the presence of EAB were found in samples collected from trees in the area.  Milwaukee County is already under quarantine for EAB and this latest find in Greenfield does not change the quarantine status.

Where else has EAB been found in Wisconsin:   The tree-killing emerald ash borer has been discovered so far in 13 Wisconsin counties, including this latest find in Milwaukee County.  The other counties are Brown, Crawford, Kenosha, La Crosse, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Trempealeau, Vernon, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties.

Quarantined counties:   State and federal EAB quarantines currently exist in 15 Wisconsin counties: Brown, Crawford, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Sheboygan, Trempealeau, Vernon, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties. Any ash material that could transport a life stage of the beetle is prohibited from being moved out of the quarantine area.  This includes all hardwood firewood, regardless of tree species.

Resources:   Background information regarding EAB can be found on the Web at www.emeraldashborer.wi.gov.
