How Did You Get Your Start at Wachtel Tree Science and Why Did You Choose Wachtel as Your Employer?
Funny story, I was SUPER unhappy at my previous job and left after 13.5yrs with no plan in place. On my honeymoon Joanne (my aunt) called and asked if I wanted a Temp position here while Amanda was on maternity leave. I came, I conquered, I never left… After Amanda came back from leave I was offered a FT position and after the 180deg change of company culture, practices and everything…it was a no-brainer to stay. I had finally understood what it was like to work in a happy supportive environment and I loved how my job was changing and growing as I did. It has been awesome to learn about trees and shrubs too so I can care for my own trees and not feeling like a complete novice.
What Do You Like Best About Working at Wachtel Tree Science?
That it is truly a supportive involved group of people who only want each other to grow and succeed. The owners look at everyone as people and not just employees or numbers. The company is willing to grow and evolve as the employees and the world around us do. Enjoying not only what you do but the people and positive atmosphere in which you do it makes coming to work easy.
What Advice/Tips Do You Have for Aspiring Tree Care Professionals?
I never realized how wide and vast the world of tree care is and how many very specific paths one can take in the industry. I’d say go in with an open mind and be a sponge to those who are around you and you will certainly find a niche that speaks to you and suits your skills.
Hobbies and Interests:
I grew up camping and love getting my kids into it now (they are already begging to go camping this year!) along with fishing and sharing those memories. We have a large (veggie) garden that I enjoy tending to and reaping the rewards with. I love reading, puzzles and board games and trying and expanding our ever-growing bourbon collection. I used to be a big rock climber and have missed doing it the past few years (hip surgery, kids, etc…) so I’m hoping to get back into that later this year. I also love to cook, when I have the time.
Is There Anything Else You’d Like to Say About What it Feels Like to Work for Wachtel Tree Science?
Sometimes I wish I could go out with the crew and climb up into the trees to work with production but even if I can’t do that, I still loving being apart of the culture and industry. I truly enjoy the people I work with and look forward to seeing them, even if it’s a just a quick passing “hello” as we go on our way.
