How Did You Get Your Start at Wachtel Tree Science and Why Did You Choose Wachtel as Your Employer?
My wife and I moved from Eau Claire, WI to Milwaukee in the Summer of 2020 and in the search for a position with a tree care operation, I found that the Wachtel office wouldn’t be a far commute. I had heard of their reputation for training and high industry standards and knew a handful of people I shared work and school experience with that had worked for or were currently working at Wachtel, so I had decided if I couldn’t stay in Eau Claire, that would be the next best place. The rest, as they say, is history.
What Do You Like Best About Working at Wachtel Tree Science?
Since being employed at Wachtel Tree Science I have continued to grow both personally and professionally. The drive to do so coupled with the relationships I have been fortunate enough to build with my coworkers has shown that Wachtel Tree Science is truly a place where with just an ounce of determination you can succeed. As my first mentor would say, “You gotta want it”.
Hobbies and Interests:
Collecting vinyl, (just getting started with) woodworking, and a yearly backpacking trip with some friends from a previous tree care company come to mind!
What Advice/Tips Do You Have for Aspiring Tree Care Professionals?
I see many people become interested in this line of work because they enjoy spending time outdoors or looking at trees. It’s usually a classic line touted by new hires and I know I introduced myself to the industry in the same way. I learned, however, that it takes more than just enjoying the outdoors or communing with trees. It takes hard earned sweat, mental toughness, and a life lived in a way open to possibilities. The career you’re picturing for yourself when you start may not be the one you find yourself with later. Be open, be ready to stretch in unexpected ways, and hang tough.
