How Did You Get Your Start at Wachtel Tree Science and Why Did You Choose Wachtel as Your Employer?
One of the previous owners of Wachtel, Dave Scharfenberger, came to a Student Society of Arboriculture meeting while I was at UWSP and shared the company’s views on safety and employee development. I was blown away by the passion and honesty from Dave and asked to be involved immediately after the meeting. I was a sophomore so we worked something out where I became one of the first interns at Wachtel Tree Science!
What Do You Like Best About Working at Wachtel Tree Science?
So many things: SAFETY, employee focused, always evolving to become better, virtually endless opportunities to grow your career and knowing you’re on the cutting edge of the industry.
What Advice/Tips Do You Have for Aspiring Tree Care Professionals?
Play to your strengths. Accept advice/guidance from everyone as if you know nothing. It will only improve your “arborist toolbox”. Make others jobs easier and they will offer you more opportunities. Be honest with your abilities. This is not a job to fake it.

Spending time with my amazing wife and two boys. Camping, hiking, woodwork, and climbing trees!
Is There Anything Else You’d Like to Say About What it Feels Like to Work for Wachtel Tree Science?
I feel valued. I shared my interests early on and that has led me down a very fun and exciting career path so far. I like showing up to work every day because it doesn’t feel like a job, I’m just hanging out with friends amongst the trees.
