We Care for Trees ALL Year

While many green industry businesses slow down or shut down during the winter, Wachtel Tree Science continues working year-round. Our commitment to a comprehensive Plant Health Care (PHC) program, and an adaptable team allows us to provide consistent protection, maintenance, and improvement for your trees in every season.
During the growing season, most of our production arborists work in our PHC department, where timing is critical for managing insects and disease. PHC requires precision and regular monitoring to ensure your trees get the right care at the right moment. Meanwhile, our Tree and Landscape department still performs pruning and removals but focus primarily on services that can only be done during warmer months. These include planting trees to enhance the beauty and value of your property, as well as Root Collar Examinations that help us understand below ground root conditions to best manage the tree above ground.
Because our PHC program requires such strong emphasis during the growing season, our Tree and Landscape workload naturally builds a backlog. This backlog becomes extremely valuable once winter arrives, ensuring steady work for our team. When other companies slow down, Wachtel continues strong. Many green industry businesses lay off employees in the winter due to a lack of work. At Wachtel, winter is our busiest period for services such as pruning, cabling and bracing, and tree removals. This consistent workload gives our arborists stable, year-round employment and ongoing opportunities to sharpen their skills.
We are able to maintain this year-round workflow for two key reasons. First, our goal is to have a team of well-rounded arborists, professionals trained in all areas of arboriculture. Every time our team visits your property, they are evaluating your trees holistically. A pruning visit might uncover an insect issue. A disease treatment may reveal a need for pruning needs. This comprehensive approach ensures your trees receive thoughtful, continuous care.
The second reason is you – our clients. Many of you choose Wachtel Tree Science because of our accurate diagnoses, exceptional service, and results that help keep your trees healthy and beautiful. Your trust enables us to invest in our team to maintain a true year-round operation. So when someone asks, “What do you do in the winter?” the answer is simple: we take care of trees, just as we do the rest of the year.

Harsh Wisconsin winters aren’t typically ideal for several activities. However, in arboriculture, winter is the perfect time to perform maintenance that keep your trees and shrubs strong and healthy year round.

Preparing Trees for Winter

Be sure to prepare and inspect one of the most crucial components of your property, your trees. Before Jack Frost can bite your trees, take preemptive steps, such as wrapping the trunk, mulching the base, recycling your leaves and many more, to ensure the safety of your trees in the harsh winter environment.
